It’s dark and gloomy outside and raining on and off all day, still I wanted to see who might be about in the garden despite the weather. Mr. Squirrel was scurrying around looking for snacks, a few House Sparrows fluffed themselves up on the branches of the Mayday and a little black-capped Chickadee helped himself to some seeds from the feeder. It’s a chilly day but we know it won’t last…
I am VERY excited today! I have had more birds in my yard and was able to capture most of them on my camera. I was SUPER excited to see this Beautiful Bandit (Cedar Waxwing) in my Mayday tree from the kitchen window… I was able to sneak out fast enough to get this shot below. What a magnificent bird, and what a treat to see him here! I hope that means there will be more!
I also had a few silent moments with a Crow, she was so pretty with brown feathers on her head… likely a juvie, but just staring into those eyes, knowing how intelligent they are, I just couldn’t help but wonder what she was thinking.
Who doesn’t love a baby face??
A couple of Pine Siskins were hanging around the Mayday tree near the sparrows, they are so small and move so quickly that it’s not easy to see the yellow feathers tucked in their wings.
I’d say this was a great day for backyard birding!
Welcome to my new backyard birding blog…
I love being in nature and I love photography so this hobby of mine combines two of my passions. Moving into my house this summer motivated me to watch and see which species visit my new neighbourhood and I’m excited to say that I have been happily surprised at the variety! I have decided to get my backyard certified as a wildlife friendly habitat – but more on that later. This blog is a place for me to document what I see – mainly in my own backyard and neighbourhood, and sometimes further out. I’d love your comments and ideas and I love to do related topic link swaps, just click the comment button beside each post.
