It’s a Lifer! Olive-Sided Flycatcher

Hark! The Herald Olive-Sided Flycatcher sings!

On top of the pine tree – against the sun – making for a difficult photograph – but a Life Lister none the less!   I saw this rather large bird flying about the tops of the trees – but since I was watching it and squinting against the sun, I was having trouble identifying him by silhouette alone.  I heard the song ‘quick three beers’ and then managed to snap him from a distance when he perched on the pine.  I had to go inside and look through my books for a positive ID and then confirmed he was indeed an Olive-Sided Flycatcher – a first ever for me – yippee! 😀

This is the first time I’ve ever seen this bird – and it thrills me that he was right outside my backyard!  #birdnerd

Birds, Glorious Birds

I am VERY excited today! I have had more birds in my yard and was able to capture most of them on my camera.  I was SUPER excited to see this Beautiful Bandit (Cedar Waxwing) in my Mayday tree from the kitchen window… I was able to sneak out fast enough to get this shot below.  What a magnificent bird, and what a treat to see him here! I hope that means there will be more!

I also had a few silent moments with a Crow, she was so pretty with brown feathers on her head… likely a juvie, but just staring into those eyes, knowing how intelligent they are, I just couldn’t help but wonder what she was thinking.

A couple of Pine Siskins were hanging around the Mayday tree near the sparrows, they are so small and move so quickly that it’s not easy to see the yellow feathers tucked in their wings.

I’d say this was a great day for backyard birding!
