White Crowned Sparrows, Blue Jay & Finches

This has been a great month for birding in my yard! This week I saw this beauty of a Blue Jay in one of my trees – the color just grabs me, I love blue!

Here is a lifer for me, a white crowned sparrow (male) was poking around in the shrubs with the house sparrows looking for seeds. The white caught my eye – and I’m glad it did! Another one for the yard list!

I never tire of the beautiful house finches, and I’m especially attracted to the orange ones, and I love the rain!

Brrrrr! An Early Snow

Well, after the cold rainy days – we had a brief snow overnight… the weather here is always changing so it won’t last, but still it’s no picnic to wake up to.  I headed outside around ten to do the usual bird watching and hoping to see the Catbird again.

Let’s see who was out and about…

And aha! I see the Catbird again, and this time he’s having lunch in my tree :)

After lunch he hopped over to the Mayday tree where I was able to take a couple more pictures through the branches.  He’s such a beautiful bird.

Birds, Glorious Birds

I am VERY excited today! I have had more birds in my yard and was able to capture most of them on my camera.  I was SUPER excited to see this Beautiful Bandit (Cedar Waxwing) in my Mayday tree from the kitchen window… I was able to sneak out fast enough to get this shot below.  What a magnificent bird, and what a treat to see him here! I hope that means there will be more!

I also had a few silent moments with a Crow, she was so pretty with brown feathers on her head… likely a juvie, but just staring into those eyes, knowing how intelligent they are, I just couldn’t help but wonder what she was thinking.

A couple of Pine Siskins were hanging around the Mayday tree near the sparrows, they are so small and move so quickly that it’s not easy to see the yellow feathers tucked in their wings.
