It’s September already…. the summer has been flying by (pun intended). This afternoon I had only a few minutes to walk around outside looking for birds and I’m sure glad I did. A family of Cedar Waxwings were causing quite a fluttery distraction in the trees. The ‘waxwinglets’ if you will, were learning to fly and hold on to branches and was it ever fun to watch! One little guy would jump off his branch and attempt to land on the tip of a branch that couldn’t support his weight and he’d flap and fall until he caught on to a better one. It happened over and over with 4 juveniles and I tried not to laugh out loud in case it spooked them. (I was semi-hiding beside a tree closeby).
Then there was a fluttering inside the shade of a shrub just a few feet in front of me so I poked around and was able to spot these two siblings sitting side by side – SO CUTE!!!! One seemed a bit sleepy from all of the practice in the trees but the other one was quite alert and even showed off his impressive ‘punky do’ a few times.
This was interesting… up in one of the evergreens I saw a nest with one of the apples from my tree – partially eaten… wish I knew who stole it…haha!
