Red-breasted Nuthatch = Adorable

How cute are the Nuthatches? I mean really! They have such a cute call – it sounds to me like ‘peep peep peep’ or ‘beep beep’ and the way they defy gravity by walking upside down on the bark of trees …. ?  It’s exciting when I can catch one posing in an area of light for a second because normally they are tucked under the shade along the trunks.

I particularly love the shot below…. the detail on the feathers make me want to jump into the image and cuddle the little guy <3

Northern Flicker & Juvenile Wilson’s Warblers

It was a short and sunny backyard birding day today, although the sun was quite harsh I was still able to spot a few birds standing under tree shade.

Flickers are cool, they just are!  Their colors and mismatched patterned feathers make them really stand out from other birds. The ones I’ve seen around my yard are usually on the ground hunting for bugs and they usually don’t mind me taking a few photos if I stay in my place with very little movement.

Hiding under the trees in the shade also led to my first warblers captured on camera in my yard. I welcome the bright little ladies and hope to see them again soon, they are such a delight to watch as they hardly stand still for a second!

Birds, Glorious Birds

I am VERY excited today! I have had more birds in my yard and was able to capture most of them on my camera.  I was SUPER excited to see this Beautiful Bandit (Cedar Waxwing) in my Mayday tree from the kitchen window… I was able to sneak out fast enough to get this shot below.  What a magnificent bird, and what a treat to see him here! I hope that means there will be more!

I also had a few silent moments with a Crow, she was so pretty with brown feathers on her head… likely a juvie, but just staring into those eyes, knowing how intelligent they are, I just couldn’t help but wonder what she was thinking.

A couple of Pine Siskins were hanging around the Mayday tree near the sparrows, they are so small and move so quickly that it’s not easy to see the yellow feathers tucked in their wings.

I’d say this was a great day for backyard birding!
